What is REA (Reverse Engineer Anything)?

Unofficial guide. This site is an independent community guide and is not affiliated with the REA project. For authoritative docs see the official REA website and the morluto/rea GitHub repository. Commands here are taken from the official README/docs (checked 2026-10-13); REA changes quickly, so verify against the official docs.

REA — Reverse Engineer Anything is an MIT-licensed tool from morluto/rea, published on npm as rea-agents. It gives your coding agent one MCP server for reverse engineering across binaries, applications and runtime behavior. The official tagline: “See a feature you like. Understand how it works, down to the binary level.”

npx rea-agents setup

How REA works

Your agent calls REA through MCP to inspect a target and trace relevant code. REA returns findings with their evidence; the agent uses them to explain the behavior or write and test an implementation. The same workflows are available as CLI commands. Analysis runs locally.

FAQ

Is REA free?

Yes. REA is open source under the MIT license. Commercial providers it can drive, such as IDA Pro or Hopper, need their own legal licenses.

Does REA upload my app?

According to the official FAQ, REA analyzes targets locally. Your agent receives the tool results, and the agent's model provider has its own data policy.

What is the npm package name of REA?

The package is rea-agents. Run npx rea-agents setup, or install the rea command with npm install --global rea-agents.
